An Overview of the Feldenkrais Method®

Movement. Action. Nurture yourself and the Intelligence with which you use yourself. The Feldenkrais Method® is a way of learning. It is learning through and with your body; moving in ways you once knew, but forgot as you grew up. You can reduce tension and stress, by learning to move in many different ways; so you don't habitually overwork any one area of your body, and underwork another. For example, overusing the smaller muscles of the head, neck, arms and hands while working at your computer; instead of employing the larger muscles of the center of your body, the pelvis and trunk. This can result in repetitive strain injuries, neck and shoulder pain and headaches. It's learning to move as a unified whole so that each part of your skeleton contributes it's fair share to the overall action intended. Learning new movement possibilities is both beneficial and interesting; from a reduction in pain and tension to feeling refreshed and revitalized after a day at work. You can heal spinal discs, ligaments, muscles and tendons previously irritated by habitual overuse. Disorganization in you body resulting from car accidents, traumas, occupational stress or commuting can change leading to more efficient movement.

I teach you how to move more easily through directed attention, gentle movements and light touch to enhance your self awareness. When you are injured or in pain, the way you use yourself becomes constrained. You lose choice in order to prevent certain feelings and pain from emerging. I follow what you're doing so that you can let go of unnnecessary muscular effort and holding; leading to better use of your skeleton and overall reduction of body tension. Movement becomes increasingly generalized throughout your body and more interconnected, because there is less dampening going on in your Nervous System.

By exploring what you're doing in the process of moving; you get "unstuck" from your current problem- leading to an expanded choice of actions and more movement possibilities. Once you have awareness, you can do what you want. After a lesson, you'll be amazed at the surprising improvements in balance, flexibility, strength and coordination.


How am I different from other Chiropractors?

I teach you how to move more easily through directed attention, gentle movements and light touch to enhance your self awareness. Thus allowing your body to fully express itself, and be used to it's fullest potential. You wouldn't drive a Rolls Royce to the neighborhood market. Why limit yourself to one or two habitual movements?
